Stop-and-go traffic jam in Narayanganj part, suffering of passengers

Stop-and-go traffic jam in Narayanganj part, suffering of passengers

Due to excessive pressure of vehicles, the Narayanganj section of Dhaka-Chittagong highway is getting stuck. Passengers of various emergency transports are suffering due to this. Although the pressure on other days is less, since there is no hartal-blockade on holidays, this highway has seen more pressure of private and freight vehicles than public transport since morning.

From Friday (December 1) morning, the movement of vehicles on the Chittagong-bound lane in the Narayanganj section of the highway is slow. As a result, traffic jams are caused due to the slowness of the vehicles for 5 km from Chaitri Garments area of Sonargaon to Meghnaghat toll plaza.

Meanwhile, Meghnaghat Toll Plaza authorities are also struggling to collect toll due to heavy traffic.

A passenger of Comilla-bound microbus named Hasan Mahmud said that family members from Dhaka are going to attend a wedding ceremony in Comilla. However, due to the pressure of more vehicles on the highway, some places have to face traffic jams. He is in doubt whether he will be able to go to the ceremony within the stipulated time.

A covered van driver named Sujan Mia said, "The owner does not take out the car due to the car being set on fire during the strike-blockade. I took a trip to Chittagong as there was no strike on Friday. But due to the pressure of cars on the highway, sometimes we have to get into traffic jams.

However, although there is traffic pressure, there is not much traffic congestion, said Rezaul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.

When contacted on the phone at 12 noon, he told the news, "There are many vehicles plying on the highway since dawn on holidays because there is no strike-blockade. Along with public transport and freight transport, private cars are running more. As a result, highways are slow due to excess traffic. But the car does not stop anywhere. There is no traffic jam. Highway police are working at every point of the highway so that there is no traffic jam anywhere.

He also said that the traffic pressure has already started reducing. Hopefully the highway will be clear in a few hours.
