The last day for filing nomination papers for the 12th National Assembly elections was Thursday. This time, against 300 seats, a total of 2,741 candidates have submitted their nomination papers. Out of the 44 registered parties, there are 1,966 candidates from 30 political parties. And 747 independent candidates. An average of 9 candidates per seat.

At least 442 of these 747 independent candidates are from Awami League. They ran as independent candidates without getting their party's nomination for 300 seats in the national parliament elections. Among them, there are 63 parliamentarians including one woman MP. It appears that the number of independent candidates is 144 more than party nominees.

Out of 300 constituencies across the country, Bogra-7 has the highest number of 25 candidates and Dinajpur-2 and Dinajpur-2 and 4 have the lowest number of candidates. In addition to MPs, at least 61 people, including district and upazila parishad chairmen, municipal mayors, have left the posts of local government and become independent candidates.

As a party, Awami League has submitted the most nominations in 298 seats. They did not field any candidate in only two seats. On the other hand, opposition party Jatiya Party (Japa) has submitted nominations for 286 seats.

Besides Trinamool BNP 151, Jasad 91, Islami Oikyajot 45, Zaker Party 218, Islami Front Bangladesh 39, Bangladesh Workers Party 33, Krishak Sramik Janata League 34, Bangladesh Islami Front 37, Ganofront 25, Ganoforum Nai, Jamiat Islam Bangladesh One, National People's Party 142, Bangladesh Khilafat Movement 13, Bangladesh Tariqat Federation 47, Jatiya Party (JP) 20, Bangladesh Samyavadi Dal six, Krishak Sramik Janata League 34, Demokrati Party 12, Bangladesh National Awami Party six, Bangladesh Workers Party 33, Alternative Dhara Bangladesh 14, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal one, Bangladesh Jatiya Party 13, Bangladesh Kalyan Party 18, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis one, Bangladesh Islamic Front 37, Bangladesh Muslim League five candidates.

Apart from this, Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance has filed nomination papers in 74 seats, Bangladesh Nationalist Front in 55 seats, Bangladesh Congress in 116 seats, Bangladesh Nationalist Movement in 49 seats, and Bangladesh Supreme Party in 82 seats.
